1. Study the following pie-charts carefully and answer the questions that follow:
Percentage of Students Enrolled in Different Streams in a College.
Total Number of Students = 3500.

Percentage Break-up of Girls Enrolled in These Streams Out of The Total Students.
Total Number of Girls = 1500.

The number of girls enrolled in Arts, Science and Commerce forms what percent of total number of students in the college?

A. 25%

B. 40%

C. 60%

D. 75%

Solution:

Number of students enrolled in various streams:

\begin{aligned} IT → \frac{20}{100} \times 3500 = 700 \\ Arts → \frac{30}{100} \times 3500 = 1050 \\ Science → \frac{22}{100} \times 3500 = 770 \\ Commerce → \frac{12}{100} \times 3500 = 420 \\ Management → \frac{16}{100} \times 3500 = 560 \end{aligned}

Number of girls enrolled in various streams:

\begin{aligned} IT → \frac{18}{100} \times 1500 = 270 \\ Arts → \frac{38}{100} \times 1500 = 570 \\ Science → \frac{11}{100} \times 1500 = 165 \\ Commerce → \frac{21}{100} \times 1500 = 315 \\ Management → \frac{12}{100} \times 1500 = 180 \end{aligned}

Number of girls enrolled in Arts, Science and Commerce
= 570 + 165 + 315
= 1050
Required percentage
