1. A man sells a scooter priced Rs. 36000. He gives a discount of 8% on the first Rs. 20000 and 5% on the next Rs. 10000. How much discount can he offer on the remaining Rs. 6000 if he is to get as much as when 7% discount is allowed on the total ?

A. 5%

B. 6%

C. 7%

D. 8%

Solution:

Mark price of scooter = Rs. 36000
According to question,

20000 \times \frac{8}{100} +

10000 \times \frac{5}{100} +

6000 \times \frac{x}{100}

= 36000 \times \frac{7}{100}

\begin{aligned} \Rightarrow 1600 + 500 + 60 x = 2520 \\ \Rightarrow 60 x = 420 \\ \Rightarrow x = \frac{420}{60} \\ \Rightarrow x = 7 % \end{aligned}
