1. A snapshot $1 \frac{7}{8} \times 2 \frac{1}{2}$ is to be enlarged so that the longer dimension is 4. What will be the dimension of the shorter side ?

A. $2 \frac{3}{8}$

B. $2 \frac{1}{2}$

C. $3$

D. $3 \frac{3}{8}$

Solution:

Let the dimension of the shorter side be x
More is the longer side, More is the shorter side (Direct proportion)

\begin{aligned} ∴ 2 \frac{1}{2} : 4 :: 1 \frac{7}{8} : x \\ \Leftrightarrow \frac{5}{2} x = 4 \times \frac{15}{8} \\ \Leftrightarrow x = (\frac{15}{2} \times \frac{2}{5}) \\ \Leftrightarrow x = 3 \end{aligned}
