1. Ayesha can complete a piece of work in 16 days. Amita can complete the same piece of work in 8 days. If both of them work together in how many days can they complete the same piece of work ?

A. $4 \frac{2}{5} days$

B. $5 \frac{1}{3} days$

C. $6 days$

D. $12 days$

Solution:

Ayesha's 1 day's work

= \frac{1}{16}

Amita's 1 day's work

= \frac{1}{8}

(Ayesha + Amitha)'s 1 day's work

\begin{aligned} = \frac{1}{16} + \frac{1}{8} \\ = \frac{3}{16} \end{aligned}

∴ Both together can complete the work in

\begin{aligned} = \frac{16}{3} \\ = 5 \frac{1}{3} days \end{aligned}
