1. If an electricity bill is paid before due date, one gets a reduction of 4% on the amount of the bill. By paying the bill before due date a person got a reduction of Rs. 13. The amount of his electricity bill was = ?

A. Rs. 125

B. Rs. 225

C. Rs. 325

D. Rs. 425

Solution:

Let the amount of bill = Rs. x
According to the question,

\begin{aligned} \Rightarrow \frac{4 x}{100} = 13 \\ x = \frac{13 \times 100}{4} \\ x = Rs . 325 \end{aligned}

Alternate :
Let the amount of bill = 100 units
4% of 100 units = 4 units

\begin{aligned} ∴ 4 units = 13 \\ \Rightarrow 1 unit = \frac{13}{4} \\ \Rightarrow 100 units  = \frac{13}{4} \times 100 \\ = Rs . 325 \end{aligned}
