1. The difference between discount of 35% and two successive discount of 20% on a certain bill was 22, the amount of the bill is = ?

A. Rs. 200

B. Rs. 220

C. Rs. 1100

D. Rs. 2200

Solution:

1st discount = 35%
Single equivalent discount of 20% each

\begin{aligned} = (20 + 20 - \frac{20 \times 20}{100}) % \\ = 36 % \\ Difference \\ = (36 % - 35 %) \\ = 1 % \end{aligned}

Let the amount of the bill Rs. x

\begin{aligned} ∴ \frac{1}{100} x = 22 \\ x = Rs . 2200 \end{aligned}
