1. The product of two numbers is 9375 and the quotient, when the larger one is divided by the smaller, is 15. The sum of the numbers is :

A. 380

B. 395

C. 400

D. 425

Solution:

Let the numbers be x and y
Then,

x y = 9375 and \frac{x}{y} = 15

\begin{aligned} \Leftrightarrow \frac{x y}{(\frac{x}{y})} = \frac{9375}{15} \\ \Leftrightarrow y^{2} = 625 \\ \Leftrightarrow y = 25 \\ ∴ x = 15 y \\ \Rightarrow x = 15 \times 25 \\ \Rightarrow x = 375 \end{aligned}

∴ Sum of the numbers :
= 375 + 25
= 400
