1. The sum of twice a number and three times of 42 is 238. What is the sum of thrice the number and two times of 42 ?

A. 245

B. 250

C. 252

D. 264

Solution:

Let the number be x
Then,

\begin{aligned} \Leftrightarrow 2 x + 3 \times 42 = 238 \\ \Leftrightarrow 2 x + 126 = 238 \\ \Leftrightarrow 2 x = 112 \\ \Leftrightarrow x = 56 \end{aligned}

∴ Required sum :

\begin{aligned} = 3 x + 2 \times 42 \\ = 3 \times 56 + 2 \times 42 \\ = 168 + 84 \\ = 252 \end{aligned}
