1. Twenty-nine times the area of a square is one square metre less than six times the area of the second square and nine times its side exceeds the perimeter of other square by 1 metre. The difference in the sides of these squares is :

Solution:
Let the sides of the two squares be x metres and y metres respectively
Then,
29x2=6y21.....(i)
And,
9x4y=14y=9x1y=9x14.....(ii)
From (i) and (ii), we get :
29x2=6(9x14)2129x2=6(81x2+118x16)1243x2+354x8=232x211x254x5=0(x5)(11x+1)=0x=5my=9x14=9×5m14=11mRequired difference=(115)m=6m
